A baby teething on a placemat
Watching waves which dance
Shaggy bull strutting the pavement
Proud of his fringe & horns
Cafes that remind of Eire
Under a red Welsh dragon banner
Ladies older than me
Without walking aids
Just a smile and an Alright Love?
Salty tasting lips
Painted by seaside gales
Who needs sunshine
When freedom blows here

Would I meet the Fairies
Or the enslaved Ariel
Be tricked by Puck
Run in fear from Caliban
Only dream state can tell
Yet insomnia blurs the way
Like a naughty Sprite
Protecting
Hiding
Fellow fictitious friends
Lest we enter dreamworld
And see where they play

It is Home

Screeching tracks
That rattle tired bones & brains
Glare of sunlight through windows
Flash forcing eyes awake
Using a coat on spare seat
Too tired for company
Rustling the day’s news in free papers
Staining fingers
Leaving smudges of inky information
Tattooed for the day
Same faces every morning
Who pretend not to remember
Dreaming of soft pillows
And the end of work day bell
Which whistles silently in minds
Clocking in mentally
As we get closer to the river
With its all seeing Eye
Wondering if there’s time
For one more caffeine hit
To help wish the day away

Far away from me

As your bare branches
Facing winter months
Without your shelter
And quiet company
Just a whisper
To have faith
Stay afloat
Wait for kinder months
